How to cancel Hulu

Hulu-billed subscriptions are canceled from the Account page in a computer or mobile browser: Account → Cancel under Your Subscription → Continue to Cancel (past the pause offer) → Cancel Subscription. Afterward the Account page should read "Your subscription will be canceled" and Hulu emails a confirmation. You keep access until the end of the billing cycle. Bundles are where surprise charges come from: canceling a Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle can leave your original Hulu or ESPN+ subscription billing at the then-current price. If someone else bills you (Amazon, Apple, Roku, Xfinity, Verizon, Disney+, and others), you cancel with them. The proof that matters is the status line on the Account page, the confirmation email, and who your billing party is.

How this guide was built

For Hulu, Kept focused on the two things that cause charges after canceling: bundles and third-party billing. We used Hulu's How to cancel Hulu article for the steps, status text, trial rules, bundle behavior, and billing partners, and its annual billing article for annual plans and refunds.

Cancellation steps

  1. Use a browser and find your billing party

Hulu's steps for Hulu-billed subscribers start on the Account page in a computer or mobile browser. Hulu says you can confirm who bills you in the Payment Information section. If it's Amazon, Apple, Google, Roku, Spotify, T-Mobile, Verizon, Xfinity, Disney+, HBO Max, or another partner, cancel there instead.

  2. Select Cancel under Your Subscription

On the Account page, select Cancel under Your Subscription. Hulu may offer to pause your subscription first. Select Continue to Cancel if you want to cancel.

  3. Select Cancel Subscription

Finish with Cancel Subscription. Hulu says the Account page should then read "Your subscription will be canceled" and a confirmation email goes to the address on file. Hulu's own advice is to keep that email.

  4. Check every line if you have a bundle

Hulu says that if you had Hulu, ESPN+, or a third-party billed subscription before upgrading to a Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle, canceling the bundle leaves that original subscription running at the then-current price unless you cancel it separately. Bundles bought through Disney+ or HBO Max are managed there.

  5. Know when access ends

You keep access until the end of the current billing cycle and aren't charged again. Free trial subscribers keep access to the end of the trial, except Hulu + Live TV trials, which end immediately when canceled.

  6. Annual plans: cancel early, no refund

Hulu's annual billing page says you keep access until the end of the annual cycle and that refunds are not issued when you cancel an annual subscription. Add-ons on an annual plan cancel at the end of their monthly cycle.

Common pitfalls

  • Canceling a bundle can leave your original Hulu, ESPN+, or third-party subscription billing at full price. Hulu says you keep being billed for it by whoever you signed up through.
  • Pausing isn't canceling. Hulu-billed subscribers can pause for up to 12 weeks, and billing restarts afterward.
  • If a third party bills you, canceling on Hulu's site may not be possible. Cancel with the billing party shown in Payment Information.
  • Annual Hulu (With Ads) subscriptions aren't refunded when canceled, according to Hulu's annual billing page.
  • Canceling doesn't delete your Hulu account or your Disney account, so a restart is easy. Keep proof of the date you canceled.

What to capture as proof

  • The Account page showing your plan, bundle lines, add-ons, price, and next billing date.
  • The Payment Information section showing who bills you.
  • The pause offer screen and the Cancel Subscription confirmation.
  • The Account page afterward reading "Your subscription will be canceled".
  • The confirmation email from Hulu.
  • Every other subscription line still active after canceling, if you had a bundle.
